Violet S. Rindy, 97, of Mayville, ND, peacefully passed away late Thursday, March 11th, 2021 while she and her husband fulfilled their 74 year marriage vows as he held her hand.
Violet was born on December 29, 1923 at the family farm in Steele County, ND to parents William and Bertina (Holstad) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Perry Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Violet attended country school in Sherbrooke Township, graduated from Portland High School in 1943 and attended business school in Fargo, ND after which she worked at Fairmont Creamery during WWII.
Violet was united in marriage to Walter Rindy on October 26, 1946. They made their home in Mayville where they raised their family and lived their life. Vi was actively involved with Mayville Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, Sons of Norway, bridge club and ladies golf. She was known for her baking; especially lefse, cakes and breads. Friends and family knew to stop by on a Saturday where she would treat them to a warm buttered brown sugar bun and/or fresh cinnamon rolls. Many young girls were thrilled to receive a doll cake from Vi for their birthday. She passed on that love of baking to her children and grandchildren. Using paint, yarn or thread, Vi created many treasured works of art. Whether it was playing cards at the golf course, bridge club or with friends and family, she used her quick wit and sharp skills well. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for her love of games and teaching them to be a fierce competitor, especially if she was playing against Walter.
She is survived by her loving husband Walter Rindy of Mayville and six children who are blessed to call her Mom: Wallace (Deborah) Rindy of Mesa, AZ, Marjorie (Keith) Maetzold of Park Rapids, MN, Duane (Sherry) Rindy of Fargo, ND, Edie (Pat) Burns of Mesa, AZ, William (Louise) Rindy of Mesa, AZ, and Jennifer (Rick) Nepstad of Mayville. Grandchildren: Wade (Traci) Rindy, Craig (Sarah) Rindy, Stephani Rindy, Jillae Rindy, Trent (Justine) Maetzold, Erin Maetzold, Brianna (Ian) McGurran, Kristina (Adam) Aikens, Isaac (Jenna Gustafson) Nepstad and Jacob Nepstad, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bertel and Alf Johnson; and five sisters, Solveig Grupp, Clara Grupp, Doris Karlstad, Bertha (Dottie) Sondreal and Hilma Hammer.
