Viola Leona Rygh, 96, of Mayville ND formerly of Galesburg ND, died on November 12, 2022 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.
Viola was born on December 27, 1925 in Galesburg, ND, the daughter of Ruches and Lucinda Miller. She was baptized and attended Sunday School at the Presbyterian Church in Galesburg, ND. Vi attended school in Galesburg, ND and at the age of sixteen started clerking at the K.O. Lande Store, where she was employed until he sold the store in 1960. She worked two months for Ruth Anderson and Ester Johnson at the A & J Store until they bought the store from K.O. Lande. She commuted to Mayville, ND where she worked at the Grinager Store for two years. She serviced as the Galesburg village treasurer, village clerk, and school clerk.
Richard and Viola were married December 5, 1965 and after their marriage she worked at the service station with Richard. In 1972 she was appointed postal clerk at the Galesburg Post Office and was part time flexible clerk at the Fargo Post Office. She retired from the Post Office in 1992 after 20 years of service and lived in Galesburg for several years. She moved to Griggs County Assisted living, Cooperstown, ND and in 2022 she moved to Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and hundreds of extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Richard in 1994; her parents: Ruches and Lucinda; brothers: Eri, John, Sylvester, Joe, Lawrence, Chet, and Woodrow; sisters: Sara Anderson, Josephine Dick, Francis Greely, Jessie Christianson and Gladys Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, family would prefer memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo.
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Stordahl Lutheran Church in Galesburg, ND.
Burial: Will be in the Stordahl Cemetery in Galesburg, ND.
