Shirley Jean Knudsvig of Ann Arbor, Michigan died on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the age of 86.
She was born on August 5, 1937 in Vista, California to Norman and Lois Webster. She graduated from San Francisco State University in Education and later went on to get her Masters of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1967.
Shirley met her husband, Glenn, while working together one summer during college at Holden Village, a Lutheran camp in Washington. They were married on June 13,1964. Shirley worked as an elementary teacher in the San Francisco Bay area then went on to teach in Saline, Michigan. She then decided to make a career of her passion for ceramics, which she acquired at an early age from working alongside her father.
For over fifty years, Shirley was actively involved in the art community. As a member of the Potters Guild and Clay Gallery she shared her love of nature and rich vibrant colors. Her work was displayed for many years at the Ann Arbor Art Fair, Potter’s Guild sales, and other regional galleries. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Ann Arbor where she served on multiple committees and loved participating in her small group bible study. Her hobbies included traveling with family and friends, hiking, gardening, kayaking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband: Glenn Knudsvig; parents: Norman and Lois Webster and her brother: Daren Webster.
She is survived by her son: Matthew Knudsvig of Ann Arbor, Michigan; daughter: Annalisa (Joel) Christensen and her grandchildren: Rachel and Luke all of Midland, Michigan.
There will be a burial in Buxton, North Dakota on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Immanuel East Lutheran Cemetery.
