Portland, ND

Sharon Ramstad, 77 of Portland, ND passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18th surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Sharon Marie Ramstad was born November 12, 1946 in Mayville, ND to Edgar and Agnes Karlstad. Sharon grew up in Mayville and graduated from Mayville High School in 1965. After graduation she attended New York Hair Design Academy and received her license of Cosmetology. She worked as a beautician at Joyce’s Beauty Salon of Mayville.

On March 9, 1968 she married Ray Ramstad of Hatton. They moved on a farm near Hatton where they lived and farmed until 1983. In 1968 they welcomed twins Barry and Brenda to their family. Then in 1975, they welcomed a son Scott. Sharon loved living on the farm. She was known for her large gardens. She loved to can as much as her shelves would hold. She also kept busy doing some catering for local events. She enjoyed being a member of the Trail Eagles Auxiliary. She worked for Linda Berg at the Beauty Spot, Hatton as a beautician until they moved to Whitefish, MT in 1987. Sharon continued her cosmetology work at a Salon in Whitefish. She loved the beauty of Montana and made many friends there. She enjoyed going to garage sales, picking Montana cherries and huckleberries.

Sharon moved from her country home into Mayville where she lived until 2020. Sharon continued to work until 2019, when she was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease and started at home dialysis. Not many people knew she was on home dialysis as this didn’t keep her down. Her final move was to Portland where she lived in a duplex beside her daughter. Sharon enjoyed her Tuesday Pizza Shop lunches/craft day and Thursday Bingo nights with the “Batty Bats” as they call themselves (a wonderful, fun & kind group of special ladies that always have each other's back).

More than anything she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She loved karaoke, fishing, tanning, spending time at the lake and loving on her cat “Bella”.
