Ronald Flaten

   Ronald Laverne Flaten, 76, of Galesburg ND died Saturday November 30, 2019 at home surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the RRV. 

   Ron was born December 24, 1942 in Minot, ND to Olaf and Eleanor Flaten.  He attended Berthold Public School and NDSCS.

   On June 16, 1963 Ron married Sherry (Hansen) Flaten in Berthold, ND and they made their home in Galesburg, ND. Ron worked at the Berthold Lumber Yard before taking a job at the Berthold Farmers Elevator under the management of Myron Bjelverud.  In 1963, upon Myron’s recommendation, Ron took a job with the Galesburg Coop Elevator in Galesburg, ND where in 1965 Ron became the Manager of the elevator until his retirement in 1993.

   After retiring Ron worked for various farmers with the last   18+   years working for good friend Raymond Moore.  Ron enjoyed watching the Minnesota Timberwolves – Minnesota Vikings and especially NDSU Bison Football.  Ron also enjoyed the occasional trip to the Casino.  Ron spent time at the lake with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids and took every opportunity he could to get out and fish.

   Ron was a member of the Mayville Eagles, served on the North Dakota Wheat Commission, the Galesburg Fire Department and Elm River Lutheran Church Council.

   Ron is survived by his wife of 56 years Sherry; sons: Bradley (Dawn) of Galesburg, ND, Michael of Fargo, ND and Randy of Galesburg, ND.  Grandchildren: Darci (Trevor) McCullough, Amy (Nate) Austin, Amber (Ross) Thykeson, Tyler (Jana) Flaten, Dayna (Jared) Estenson, Heather (Kole) Jenson, Trenton Flaten and 13 great grandchildren. Ron is also survived by sisters: Beverly (Leo) Keller of Cole Harbor, ND, Carol (Wayne) Hornberger of Berthold, ND, Elaine (Garry) Jacobson of Berthold, ND; brothers: Wayne (Danella) Flaten of Fargo, ND and Robert Flaten of Stanley, ND. Brothers in law: Joel (Lorna) Hansen of Berthold, ND and Gary (Linda) Hansen of Ray, ND.

   Ronald was preceded in death by his parents Olaf and Eleanor Flaten.

Visitation:  Will be 10 AM to 11 AM on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Elm River Lutheran Church in Galesburg, ND.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Elm River Lutheran Church in Galesburg, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Elm River Cemetery in Galesburg, ND.
