Robert Keith Balstad

   Robert ‘Bob’ Balstad, 62 years old, of Portland, ND died on May 28, 2018 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.     Bob was born in Mayville, ND on September 3, 1955 to Klarius and Joyce Balstad. Bob grew up in the Mayville – Portland communities and graduated high school in the M-P-C-G school system. He worked various summer jobs through his High School years and developed a good work ethic in the process. Upon completing High School, Bob took employment with Bovaird Construction where he learned to remodel grain handling facilities and work with grain moving equipment. He was a valued employee until a car accident in 1979 left him handicapped.    Bob enjoyed doing crafts out of his home. Bob was a keen follower of the financial markets and had a passion for watching professional golf on the TV. Elsa Carpenter was Bob’s full time, live-in caregiver and best friend. They shared life together with homes in Fargo and Mesa, Arizona. Eighteen months ago Bob moved back to Mayville taking up residence in the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Bob enjoyed life and had a gift for making lasting friendships wherever he lived.    Bob is survived by his brothers: Tom (Arlys) of Portland, ND, Dean (Diana) of Mayville, ND, Bill (Mariam) of Portland, ND; sisters: Mary (Greg) Dronen of Archdale, NC, Barbara (Dave) Hammarsten of Browns Valley, MN, Nancy (Brian) Idso of Portland, ND; brother-in-law: Larry Dakken of Mayville, ND and sister-in -law: Rita Balstad of Portland, ND. Bob had numerous Nieces and Nephews whose company he always enjoyed.    Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Klarius and Joyce Balstad; his brother: Bradley Balstad and his sister: Sharon Dakken. Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be in the Bruflat Cemetery in Portland, ND.
