Raymond Karel Aafedt, a beloved educator, devoted family man, and passionate motorcycle rider, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Son of the late Ira and Lilian (Kocian) Aafedt, Ray was born in Fordville, North Dakota, on November 5, 1940. Ray's life was marked by a deep commitment to education, family, and faith. After graduating from Fordville High School and earning degrees from Mayville State University and NDSU, Ray dedicated three decades to serving as a secondary principal in schools across North Dakota and Minnesota. His dedication to his students and colleagues was evident in his mentorship and guidance.
Ray's love for learning extended beyond the classroom. He was a lifelong learner, always seeking new knowledge and experiences. Following his retirement from education, he became a trainer for the Minnesota Motorcycle Public Safety program, sharing his passion for riding with others.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Ray was a devoted husband to Mona, a loving father to Karla, Tony, and Amy, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.
Ray's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a devout Catholic who found solace and strength in his daily Bible readings. His unwavering belief in a higher power guided him through life's challenges and inspired him to be a compassionate and generous person.
In his free time, Ray enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as golfing, riding his motorcycle, and singing. He found joy in the beauty of nature and the company of friends and family.
Ray is survived by his wife: Mona of Casa Grande, AZ; daughter: Karla (Steven) Rosenau of West Fargo, ND; son: Tony (Cindy) Aafedt of Dawson, MN, and daughter: Amy (Andrew) McNamara of Los Angeles, CA; five grandchildren: Jessica (Chaz) Gunderson of West Fargo, Cody (Meghan) Aafedt of St. Louis Park, MN, Parker (Amanda) Rosenau of Minneapolis, MN, Madeline (Calvin) Stoesz of New London, MN and Lydia Aafedt of New London, MN; great-grandson: Owen Gunderson; brothers: Warren Aafedt of Easley, SC and Bruce Aafedt of Green Valley, AZ.
Ray will be deeply missed by his wife Mona, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, brothers, and countless friends. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
In lieu of flowers, Mona requests that memorials be made to Ray's favorite charities: the American Cancer Society, Wounded Warriors, and USO.
Visitation: Will be from 12:30 to 2 PM prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: Will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, September 13, 2024 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND.
Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
