Rachel Payne, 58, of Mayville, ND died on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND.
Rachel Karaim was born June 6th, 1963 to William and Betty Karaim in Mayville, ND. She lost her courageous 3-year fight against stomach cancer on November 2nd, 2021.
Rachel and her family lived in Mayville most of her life with a short move to Norman, OK where Rachel spent her 3rd-grade year. After Oklahoma, they lived in Mayville again until Rachel's junior year when they moved to Havre, MT where she graduated high school. Later she would receive her Associate Degree in Dental Assisting on the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
While living and working in Grand Forks she met Jeff Payne, who was serving as an airman stationed at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. They were married on October 14th, 1983. They celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary this year and Jeff said she is the love of his life, and Rachel felt the same way about him. Rachel and Jeff met through friends. After dating a while, Jeff told her if he could only have her, he wouldn’t want anyone else, her response was “you have me.”
Rachel and Jeff resided in Grand Forks for a while where they had their 1st daughter, Jade. They moved to Emerado, ND where they later had Nicole and Gage. Later they moved to the Grand Forks Air Force Base for a year until they moved to rural Portland, ND in 1994, and then to Mayville in 1997, where they have resided since.
Rachel was a Dental Assistant most of her life. She worked at Goose River Dental in Mayville for the last 25 years. Rachel was very dedicated to her job and was dearly loved by all her patients.
Rachel adored her grandchildren Jerica, Ella, Hadley, and Cooper, and loved spending time with them. One of her favorite things was hanging out by her pool and watching the grandkids swim and play. She and Jeff also loved spending time at her aunt's cabin in Alexandria, MN where they keep their camper and boat. Summer was her favorite time of year, as she loved sitting in the sun. "The hotter the better!" she liked to say. On most hot sunny days you could find her enjoying her pool.
