Paul J. Satrom, 77, of Portland, ND died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND. Paul Joseph Satrom was born July 3, 1941 to Ragnar and Edith (Finell) Satrom at Mayville, ND. He attended grade school and high school in Clifford, ND. Paul was baptized and confirmed at Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford and was active in church affairs. He attended NDSU, spending four years in the Coop House. Paul was drafted into the Army, serving from November 1966-September 1968. Paul married Ella Mae Mitchell on June 1, 1969 at Colgate, ND. Together they farmed near Galesburg, on the farm where he grew up. He served on many boards through the years: Portland Credit Union for 18 years (16 as president), Galesburg Co-Op Elevator for 9 years (2 as president), Luther Memorial Home Board for 6 years and Broadlawn Township Board for approximately 30 years. Paul also served for several years on the Clifford Cemetery Board, the Galesburg Firemen’s board, Mayport Food Bank, Traill County Farmer’s Union Board and as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman. He was a member of the Galesburg American Legion Post 210 for 50 years and spent several years working with the Baker Funeral Home. Paul was very proud of his children: Kirsten (John) LaLonde and Peter (Virginia) Satrom and his grandchildren, Madison and McKenzie LaLonde. He loved spending time with them. He loved that his son chose to farm, and worked with him until this year. He also loved that his daughter taught music and enjoyed her programs when he could get there. He enjoyed gardening and playing pinochle each winter with friends at Clifford, ND. Paul had a close bond with the servicemen he spent time with at Fort Collins, CO, especially the Wisconsin men who exchanged visits many times over the years. In later years he enjoyed reunions and visitations with Ella Mae’s family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Paul is survived by his wife: Ella Mae; daughter: Kirsten (John) LaLonde; son: Peter (Virginia); granddaughters: Madison and McKenzie LaLonde; siblings: Robert (Mary) Satrom, Edie (Ron) Braaten, Joseph (Katherine) Satrom, Julie (Bruce) Swanson and Sonya (Carroll) Mortenson; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Will be 5–8 PM with a 8 PM Public Prayer Service on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford, ND. Military Honors: Galesburg American Legion Post 210 and North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Burial: Will be at the Clifford Cemetery in Clifford, ND.
