Paul R Mattke

 Paul Mattke, 57, of Mayville, ND passed away unexpectedly in November of 2024, at Sanford Medical Center in Mayville. 

 Paul was born September of 1967 to Carl and Bonnie (Herbst) Mattke in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who then raised him on their family dairy farm in Park Falls, WI. He enjoyed raising his “award winning” dairy cattle, planting and harvesting the fields and hauling lumber out of the woods.

 After leaving the family farm, Paul worked as a farmhand on several other farms in the area and eventually made his way to the oil fields of North Dakota. The call of the open roads and seemingly endless prairieland was very different to the Wisconsin woods and rolling hills where he grew up. Paul found his second calling when he took up short and long haul truck driving and he spent his final years working for Marvin Altendorf at Altendorf Trucking in Minto, ND.

 During his time off, Paul enjoyed spending time with his three children or close friends. He valued family, tradition, and had an avid love for history. From watching Clint Eastwood movies at home, to touring museums and historical places, Paul filled his downtime with various activities and experiences. Sometimes he was even patient enough to fish from shore. He especially enjoyed recreating and reinventing recipes into whatever his mind and belly desired.

 Paul is survived by his three children: Emily Mattke, Randy Mattke, and Gretchen Mattke of Chippewa Falls, WI; his family and many friends. Paul cherished his children, his cows and his country (in that order) very much. He connected with people everywhere he traveled and took the time to hear their stories, learn about them as individuals and took his cues from their advice and experiences as both a father and a friend. Paul is preceded in death by both of his parents and all of his grandparents. 

A Celebration of Life date has yet to be determined and will be announced when further details are established. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to bring your photos and fond memories of Paul. We will gladly include your remembrances in his celebration.
