Dr. Paul Erling Groth

   Dr. Paul Groth passed away at the age of 72 on January 16, 2022 in Berkeley, California.

   Paul was born on April 25, 1949 in Mayville, North Dakota as the only son of Erling and Evelyn Deeble Groth and the brother of Mary Jo (Groth) Rhodes and Karen (Groth) Dwyer. 

   Paul was a beloved friend, son, brother, cousin, brother-in-law, and uncle.

Paul was a proud graduate of Mayville High School, North Dakota State University, and the University of California at Berkeley.  

   Paul was a celebrated Professor Emeritus of the Departments of Architecture and Geography at UC Berkeley. Having authored dozens of articles, reviews, and books on cultural landscape studies, Paul is most remembered as being a transformative and impactful teacher to his students and fellow colleagues over the course of his more than 30-year career in Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design.  

Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial Service: Will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
