Ordell Harold Olstad

December 14, 1934 — February 21, 2022

On Monday, February 21, 2022, Ordell Harold Olstad was peacefully called home to his heavenly father at the age of 87.

Ordell was born in Mayville, ND, on December 14, 1934 to Hartvik and Judith Olstad.  He attended Mayville High School, graduating in 1953.  He then went on to Wahpeton to train for his amazing and well-respected career as an auto mechanic.  After completion, Ordell joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Sill near Lawton, Oklahoma.  It was there that he met and married his wife, Donna Springer.  Ordell brought his sweet, southern bride back to North Dakota to begin their new life together. They were blessed with 3 children: Harold, Darla & Jim.

Donna passed away Nov.19, 1981 after a brief illness.  It was after this that Ordell met his second wife, Joanne (Sand) Studlien through an introduction made by his sister-in-law, Arlene. The love soon grew to include Joanne’s children, Lori and Val and they all joined Ordell’s family on Feb. 18, 1984. Ordell and Joanne had 18 wonderful years together until her sudden passing on May 4, 2001.

Ordell was employed at Mayville Motors for the majority of his 50 years in the trade which also included a few years self-employed at the Mobil Station in Mayville and 3 years at Rydell Chevrolet in Grand Forks. He was not only a great mechanic, he also had beautiful woodworking skills.  Each of his children proudly own some of his best work. Ordell found great pleasure in helping his children and grandchildren with anything and everything. He could do it all!   He enjoyed hunting and fishing back in the day but more recently what brought him the most joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren and various new friends he got to know at Sun Center in Mayville. Ordell also served on the Mayville Volunteer Fire Department for several years.

Ordell is survived by his children: Harold (Connie) Olstad-Maple Grove, MN; Darla Peterson-Mayville, ND; James (Ronell) Olstad-Gilbert, AZ; Lori (Dale) Baldock-Portland, ND; and Valerie (Dennis) Mears-Waubay, SD. Grandpa Ordell is survived by his 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way! He is also survived by his brother Phil (Marilyn) Olstad-Minot, ND; sister-in-law Arlene (Leslie) Olstad of Mayville, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hartvik and Judith, his brother Leslie, and his respective wives Donna and Joanne.
