Opal E. Pietron, 90, of Mayville, ND, formerly of Larimore, ND, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND, surrounded by family.
Opal Elaine Harpster was born December 9, 1928 to Oscar and Gina (Mohn) Harpster in Devils Lake, ND. Opal attended high school in Devils Lake, graduating in 1946. She subsequently attended Mayville State Teachers College, graduating with a teaching certificate in 1948. She taught elementary school in Petersburg and Larimore.
Opal married Gerald “Jerry” Pietron at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Larimore on May 5, 1950. They raised five children on their rural Larimore farm and actively farmed until retirement in 1986. After retiring, they spent winters in Mesa, AZ and returned to the farm during the summer months,
Opal was an avid gardener and enjoyed treating her guests to her home cooked meals. She moved to Mayville in 2013 and lived in the Sun Center Apartments, moving to the Luther Memorial Home in January of 2019.
She is survived by four children: Lee Ann (Jeff) Strand of Portland, ND, Joan Carlisle (Ronald Deraas) of Fargo, ND, Claudia (Steve) Cederstrom of Willmar, MN and Ted (Sarah) Pietron of Wahpeton ND; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband: Jerry in 2015; eldest son: Thomas in 2005 and two sisters: Orriet and Junies.
Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2019 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Larimore, ND.
Burial: Will be in the Bellevue Cemetery in Larimore, ND.
