Marvin J. Callahan

   Marvin Callahan, 88, of Mayville ND, died Monday, November 18, 2019 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

   Marvin was born on April 16, 1931 at Forest River, ND to William and Bessie (Bruce) Callahan. Marvin attended Forest River School, graduating in 1949.  He also attended the University of North Dakota for one semester.

   Marvin served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954 serving during the Korean War. Marvin enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard in 1954.  He moved to Mayville in April of 1955 and shortly after that became the Mayville National Guards Unit Administrator, a position he held until retirement in 1991.

   Marvin married Ardis Hellekson at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, ND on September 4, 1955 and they have made their home in Mayville since that time.

   Marvin was an avid golfer until this past summer when illness forced him to give up his passion.  He also enjoyed watching sports on tv, especially golf. Marvin enjoyed his grandchildren and especially loved traveling to watch them in their various activities, always their biggest supporter. Marvin and Ardis were named Fans of the Year by the Mayville-Portland High School Booster Club in 1996.

   Marvin was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars: serving as State Commander for a year, North Dakota National Guard Retirees/Enlisted Association, Mayville Lutheran Men's Club, Mayville Fire Department, the Mayville Golf Club, where he served on the board and was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church, where he also served on the Church Council, as President for a year.

   Marvin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ardis; sons: Michael (Jean) of Minnewaukan, ND, Timothy (Lori) of Edgeley; daughters: Cynthia (Jeff) Houdek of Mayville, Karen (Ed) Simons of North Pole, AK and Wendy Savage of West Fargo, ND; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; brother: Mike (Sue) Callahan of Grafton, ND; sister in-law: Jean Callahan of Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Kathleen; brothers: Morris and Murphy; sisters: Margaret Bolster and Marie Cowley; and in laws Al Bolster, Joe Cowley and Harriet Callahan.

Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 1:30 PM Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND.

Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.

Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
