Mark Lipsiea, 67, of Mayville, ND, died Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville.
Mark was born on October 22, 1952 to Earl and Paula Lipsiea in Grand Forks, ND. He graduated in 1970 from Mayville High School and from Mayville State College in 1973; Mark also earned a master’s degree in counseling from Concordia University.
Mark taught elementary education in the Hatton School District. While at Hatton, he coached highly successful wrestling teams and lead the baseball team to the state championship. Later, Mark worked in a management position at Paula’s Café and subsequently as the owner/operator of Stub’s Bar in Mayville for many years. Mark married Janice Huus on March 24, 1990. They made their home together until Janice’s passing in 2011. Mark continued to reside in Mayville until the time of his death.
Mark was an accomplished athlete. He played on the football and wrestling teams while at Mayville High School and lettered in baseball while at Mayville State. Mark also played on several state amateur baseball championship teams with the Hatton Vikings and the Mayville Redcaps.
Mark was an avid hunter, golfer, reader, cat owner(“Lucky”) and befriender of the many souls, who made their way through the doors of Stub’s through the years; in particular, Stan Dakken. He also had a true fondness for MSU students, many of whom became employees at the bar during their time in Mayville.
Mark is survived by his sisters, Sheila Tunseth of Longs, SC; Monica (Frank) Zander of Bismark; brothers, David (Julie) of Bayfield, CO. and Jim of Annandale, MN. He was preceded in death by wife, Janice; parents, Earl and Paula; brothers, Peter and Kelly; step-father, Orville Tunseth; and step-son, Loren Lillemoen.
In true Mark Lipsiea form, a celebration of his life will be conducted in the Irish Wake fashion at a time and site yet to be determined. The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the remarkable staff at Sanford Hospital of Mayville.
