Marion Domier

June 18, 1919 — July 8, 2019

Marion Domier, 100, of Mayville ND died Monday, July 8, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Marion Lorinza Domier was born June 18, 1919 in Hatton, ND the daughter of Lewis and Amanda (Norgaard) Sletten. She grew up and attended country school by Hatton. In her youth she worked at area farms from caring for children, cleaning homes, milking cows and working in fields. She had a strong work ethic and has passed that onto her family.

Marion met George Spencer Domier while working in the potato fields. They were married on October 18, 1937 in Hillsboro, ND. After their marriage, they began farming in the Portland area. In 1939 they bought the farmstead and eventually built their home. They lived their entire married life on the farm, raising 3 girls and a boy.

Marion was a great cook, baker and canner. She could make a feast out of anything. There were always jars of sauce, jellies, vegetables, pickles, etc. in the cold storage room. She served sauce and a dessert for almost every meal. There was always enough to share when company came to visit. She made it look so easy to make doughnuts, lefsa and homemade breads and buns. It was always the "just a pinch" of this or that that made her foods the best. Her kitchen always had the wonderful aroma of freshly baked breads and other goodies. Marion enjoyed looking through recipe books and trying something new. She would jot little notes by the recipe to show she tried it or changed it a little and whether she would try it again. Those little notes have been appreciated by her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her trees, shrubs and flowers. Many pails of water was carried to them on a daily basis when the weather was dry or they were freshly planted. Everything grew beautiful and mature because of her care. Marian was always willing to help family members and spend time with them. She made certain people were fed, had clothes to wear and went to church. When company left after a day of visiting they usually left with food and goodies.

Marion is survived by her daughters: Janice Love of West Fargo, ND and Sandra Olson (David Steiner) of Sisseton, SD; sister: Dorothy Overmoen from North Dakota and brother: Elroy Sletten from Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 22 great- great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was proceeded in death by her parents; husband: George Spencer Domier; daughter: Gloria Mae Viken; son: Levon George Domier; son-in-law: Jim Olson; 4 brothers: Knute, Marvin, Franklin and Winfred and 6 sisters: Viola, Clara, Otillia, Mable, Glayds and Marcella.
