Lorraine Thompson Rygg, 96, Fargo, formerly of Portland ND, died peacefully surrounded by her family on January 16, 2021.
Lorraine was born in rural Traill County, the daughter of Charley and Helga (Vinje) Thompson. She grew up on the farm and attended school in nearby Clifford.
She married Myron Rygg on June 12, 1944. They began their life together on a family farm owned by her husband’s grandfather which eventually became a registered Centennial Farm in 1989 and still today is owned and operated by her son and grandson. Myron and Lorraine retired from that oasis on the prairie in 1985.
Lorraine was a lifelong member of Bang Lutheran Church. She was active in Circle, The Mission’s Society and Sunday School teacher. Lorraine was known for her love of flowers and gardening. She had many hobbies: sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting both in a church group and individually. She was known as the “Egg Lady” who raised and sold fresh farm eggs to many neighbors and local cafes. She loved to rise early to get in her walk for the day.
She is survived by two daughters: Patricia Sparrow of Hawley, MN and Susan (James) Akovenko of Arlington TX; one son: Marlow (Carmen) of Portland; eight grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; with many nieces and nephews.
The family wants to express a special thank you to Elim Care Center, The Meadows on University and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving and compassionate care given to our Mother.
The family requests any memorials be given to Bang Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
