Kazia Gummer, 91, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND. She was born in Brody, Poland March 19, 1927, the eldest child of Michael and Maria Zurawski and spent much of WWII in Germany. She came to Mayville in 1949, married Robert Gummer June 30, 1950 and they made a home and raised a family. Kazia worked at the hospital and nursing home in Mayville. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, bowling, traveling, fishing and camping with her family. She was active at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, the Mayville Senior Center and VFW Auxiliary. She was proud of her Polish heritage. She visited high school and college classes several times over the years to share the stories of her life and her Polish recipes. She especially enjoyed twice travelling to Poland to reconnect with family who were separated during the war. She is preceded in death by her parents: Ludwik and Maria Schwarz; two sisters: Bernice and Janice; brother: Tony Zurawski; her husband: Robert with whom she shared 61 years. She is survived by her brother: Gene (Rosemarie) Schwarz; sister-in-law: Ramona Zurawski Harris; six children: Raymond (Shirley) Gummer, Ken (Nancy) Gummer, Roberta (Kevin) Basol, Kurt (Jen) Gummer, Kathleen Foss and Randy (Jim) Swingen; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Memorials may be directed to Luther Memorial Home and Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Saturday, November 24 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville, ND. Burial: Will be at the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
