June Hanson

June 17, 1923 — October 12, 2022

June Ione Vosper Hanson, aged 99, passed away October 12, 2022 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, North Dakota.

June was born June 17, 1923 in Neche, North Dakota, the daughter of Roy and Ruth Vosper. She graduated from Neche High School and attended Mayville State Teachers College. June accepted her first teaching job as a 5th/6th grade teacher in St. Thomas, North Dakota. After marrying Courtlan “Bud” Hanson on June 1,1944, June became a life-long resident of Mayville.

Through the years, June was active in many community organizations: Homemakers, Bridge Club, PEO, the American Cancer Society, the VFW Auxiliary, etc. She taught Sunday School and Confirmation at Mayville Lutheran Church, worked for the Republican Party, and supported Mayville State College.

June lived her life to serve her family and friends. She was known to be an outstanding hostess and cook for Sunday dinners, holidays, and many special occasions. June sewed her daughter’s clothes, made costumes, helped with homework, packed lunches and delivered meals to farm workers. She did all these things and more, seemingly, tirelessly.

June loved to golf and was proud of her “Hole in One.” On one of many Canadian fishing trips with Bud, she enthusiastically caught the “biggest fish.” June and Bud traveled often to far away places like Hawaii and Europe. They spent winters in their Mesa, Arizona home.

June was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In her later years, June’s greatest joy was playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. June was beloved and respected by those who knew her.

June is survived by her sister: Ruth Gulbrandson; her four children: Jan (David) Fisher, Court (Arlene) Hanson, Kris (Danny) Scarborough and Bruce (Shari) Hanson. She has nine grandchildren: Andrew Fisher, Bart (Laura) Fisher, Anna (Andy) Mignery, Margretta (Jeff Martell) Hanson, Liz (James) Johnson, Seth Scarborough, Ethan (Ashley) Hanson, Ashley Hanson and Elsa (Kody) Kyllo. June also has 16 great grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband “Bud” on 11/25/2010; brothers: Herb and Wesley Vosper and a sister: Doreen Taber.
