Jason C. Perkins

   Surrounded by his loving family, Jason Charles Perkins passed away on December 21, 2023. A military veteran, Jason had been at the Puget Sound VA in Seattle, Washington, for six months, being treated for two types of cancer, with his loving wife Hanah by his side, and his precious boys supporting him from their family home in Mayville, North Dakota.

   Jason was born May 7, 1977, to Candice Forbes in Fort Campbell, KY. Later, Jason was adopted by James Perkins. While his family settled in Pennsylvania, his summers were spent with family in Florida. 

   As a young man, Jason entered the Marine Corps in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After four years in the Corps, he attempted civilian life in a factory job. It took exactly one night for him to know it wasn't what he wanted. In 2000, he enlisted with the United States Air Force, which brought him to Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota.

   Jason fiercely protected other service members as a member of Security Forces, serving as the base anti-terrorism program manager. His 18 years of service in two branches took him all over the world and he was stationed in locations such as Japan, the Mediterranean, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Greenland, and Kosovo. He sacrificed so much for the United States military.

   In 2006, Jason met and eventually married Hanah (Olson). Everyone who knew the couple watched their precious love story unfold, and their family grow through the addition of sons Wyatt and Ethan.

   After 18 years of service, Jason retired from the military as a Tech Sergeant to spend more time with his family.

   Jason was a dedicated family man, unfailingly supporting his boys in their athletic pursuits, always their biggest cheerleader. He adored camping and fishing with his family, and had a deep connection with his beloved service dog, Rex. He was trustworthy, loyal, and had a way of putting everyone at ease and bringing the fun to any situation.

   Jason was an athlete, an artist, and a jokester. He was a master in the kitchen, generously giving of his culinary talents and treasures, turning meals into memorable events. He was the treasured uncle of countless kids who loved him, and he blessed them with scary campfire stories, ribbon dances, and introductions to crawfish dinners while dinner was still crawling. He showered kids with his undivided attention, leaving a loving lasting impression.

   He served as a member of his local American Legion and VFW posts. He loved participating in events and volunteering. The community of Mayville will dearly miss him in the Color Guard, on the football chains, and all the many other ways he gave of himself.

   Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Candy, his grandparents, and his honorary sister Taylor Skovlund. He is survived by his wife Hanah, sons Wyatt and Ethan, sisters Lisa (Kevin) and Carly (Brady), brothers Josh and Justice, dad James Perkins, step-mom Melissa Perkins, step-dad Brian Forbes, in-laws Steve and Mary Olson, Aaron (Adrienne) Olson, Andrew (Jillian) Olson, and Eliot Olson, and honorary families Kyle and Shannon Skovlund, Zach (Laura) Skovlund, Madison (Kyle) Amb and Jacob (Michelle) Lawrence. He also had numerous nieces and nephews he adored. 

   An account has been set up in Jason’s name, and the family respectfully requests that any donations be made to it through the Jason Perkins Benefit account at Gate City Bank locations. Funds given to this account will be used to support Wyatt and Ethan Perkins.

   The family requests bright colors to be worn to the funeral. Jason liked bright colors.

Visitation:  Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial Service: Will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 15, 2024 at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Mayville, ND.

Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.

Burial: Will be in the Fargo National Cemetery in Harwood, ND.
