Janice Marie Borud

   Janice Marie (Peterson) Borud (89) passed away on June 09, 2018 in Fargo, ND. Born on Feb 26, 1929, Janice Marie Peterson grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School. She attended Moorhead State Teacher's College and received her teaching certificate. She taught in one room school houses before settling in at a country school in Dows Township, near Galesburg ND. It was at that time she met a handsome young man named Herman Borud who ran the township maintainer. He was contacted to help remove a large rock in the way of repairs being made to school grounds. While he was working one of the little boys swiped his cap and ran with it. Janice stopped this little boy, and returned cap to Herman who eventually asked Janice for her hand in marriage. They were married at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Fargo ND on June 5, 1951.    Janice was active in many community and church activities. She was a member of the Elm River Lutheran Church of Galesburg; she was active in the Ladies Aid, Circle group studies, Church Council, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Luther League. She was indeed your classic “church lady”.  Together with her husband, Janice joined a weekly bowling League, and the Clifford – Galesburg Senior Citizens, she is lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she and her husband chaperoned most school events for years.       Janice was skilled seamstress, after high school she worked for DeLendrecie’s altering clothing. She sewed most clothes worn by her daughters when they were in school as well as their prom, wedding, bridesmaid dresses, and baptismal gowns for her grandchildren, suit coats for her husband. Once the girls grew up she continued sewing, altered, repaired dresses, men pants, for her family, grandkids and others in the community. Janice loved quilting, while she was able she made one-of-a-kind quilts for her adult children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.    Janice is survived by her daughters: Alice Borud Kenney, Fargo ND, Ellen (Scott) Kraling, Baxter MN; her son: Paul (Stephanie) Borud, Valrico FL; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, treasured family and friends.    She is preceded in death by her husband: Herman Borud; daughters: Julie (Gary) Johnson and Karla (Jim) Werner; parents: Sadie and Albert C. Peterson; sisters: Naomi Campbell and Marjorie Bowen; brother: Albert C. Peterson, Jr.    A celebration of life will be 11 AM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Elm River Lutheran Church in Galesburg ND; with visitation starting at 9:30am till the start of the service. Interment will be at the Galesburg Cemetery following the service.
