James Ronald Lande, 88, loving father, husband, grandfather and great grandfather found his way home into God’s loving arms on July 7th, 2022.
Jim was born on February 19, 1934, in Mayville, North Dakota to Ole and Anne (Strand) Lande. He was raised on the family farm and joined the US Army after high school. After military service he returned to Mayville to attend State Teachers College (Mayville State University) where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. During this time, he married his first wife, Sonja Skarperud, and they eventually moved to California to begin their teaching careers and raise their three children.
He settled in Huntington Beach, California and became a well-respected teacher, golf coach and administrator. He earned his Master of Arts in Secondary Education while teaching in the Huntington Beach School District. He retired from education as an Assistant Principal of Ocean View High School in 1994.
He married Linda Karlstad on June 30, 1990, and they resided in Huntington Beach, California until he retired. They then returned to Mayville to enjoy their retirement. However, his love of farming led to a new career as a crop adjuster for the next several years.
Some of Jim’s loves were camping, golfing, running, beach bonfires, cigars, travel and a good Vodka/Diet Coke! He loved taking care of his yard and flowers and doing projects around the house. He was proud of Mayville and especially the University and its contribution to the town he loved. He attended many Mayville State sports events and like any good fan has a closet full of MSU attire. His love for this community was endless.
He could be silly, he was funny, and loved to laugh. He was empathetic, generous, kind and thoughtful. He meant it when his doormat said “Welcome”. But his greatest loves were his family; his happy birthday songs, his support and encouragement, his joy in every conversation, his excitement in every visit, his pride in every achievement.
Left to cherish his memory are his son: Anthony Lande of Arizona; daughters: Anita McClain of Indiana and Alecia (Scott) Devich of Ohio; grandchildren: Austin, Garrett and Jake McClain, Amber (Brady Muzkyka), Hannah and McKenna Devich, Morgan (Lance) Anderson, Parker and Jaxson Karlstad; great grandchildren: Beckham Muzyka and Hadley Anderson; daughter in law: Kellie Karlstad and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was proceeded in death by his parents; two sisters and five brothers; wife: Linda and stepson: Bruce Karlstad.
You are in the arms of an angel now. Rest daddy, rest in peace.
