Irene C Nygord

 Irene C. Nygord, 92, formerly of Finley, ND, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

 Irene Caroline Jacobson was born August 2, 1932, to Jacob and Elise (Thompson) Jacobson in Sherbrooke, ND, where she was raised and attended school. She married the love of her life, Bob Nygord, on August 19, 1956. They lived on a farm near Finley until moving into Finley where they raised their four children: Richard, Douglas, Ernest, and Janell. 

 Irene was a housewife and helped Bob on the farm. In the mid to late 70’s, she worked at The Steele County Press and then worked at Top Taste Bakery until she retired.

 Irene enjoyed cooking and baking, as well as tending to the garden and flowers. She used to sew, crochet and knit when the children were younger. She loved having family and friends over which gave her an excuse to bake and make a fresh pot of coffee. She was known for her delicious donuts and chocolate bars. She liked playing cards, especially “Kings Corner”.

 Irene was a faithful member of Ostervold Lutheran Church and was involved in the women’s groups such as Ladies Aid and Circle. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School for several years. Irene was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Irene taught herself how to play the piano, guitar, and accordion. She could also yodel.

 Irene is survived by her children: Richard (Cindy) Nygord of Jamestown, ND, Douglas (Joni) Nygord of Mayville, ND, Ernest (Dawn) Nygord of Fargo, ND, and Janell (Rob) Soell of Haysville, KS; grandchildren: Kylee Nygord of Rochester, MN, Ryan (Rae) Nygord of Mayville, ND, Kaia Nygord of Chaska, MN, Aaron (Marisa) Nygord of Fargo, ND, Austin Soell and Alyssa Soell, both of Haysville KS; great-grandchild: Scarlett Nygord of Mayville, ND; brothers: Willard (Donna) Jacobson, Norris Jacobson and Edwin (Marlys) Jacobson; and sister: Edna Hansegard; brother-in-law: Fred (Mary) Nygord, and sisters-in-law: Shirley Jacobson, Arlene Jacobson, and Joanne Nygord; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 Irene is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her parents: Jacob and Elise; brothers: Elmer Jacobson, Orville Jacobson, Marvin Jacobson, and Robert Jacobson; sisters: Adeline Jacobson, Esther Deltener, and Agnes Haugtvedt; brothers-in-law: Gus Deltener, Roy Haugtvedt, Melvin Hansegard, and Dennis Nygord; and sister-in-law: Elaine Jacobson.

 Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, January 3, 2025 at the Ostervold Lutheran Church in rural Finley, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Ostervold Cemetery in rural Finley, ND.
