Harlan “Barney” Strand, 74, of Hillsboro, ND died Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at the Sanford Care Center in Hillsboro, ND. Harlan Theodore “Barney” Strand was born May 11, 1944 to Clarence and Judith (Thuen) Strand at Union Hospital, Mayville, ND. The family moved to Amenia in 1955, where Barney graduated from high school in 1963. He attended Mayville State College and graduated from North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, specializing in Electronic Repair. He went to work for his uncle Harold Thuen in Portland, ND and later purchased the business from him. Barney married Patsy (Mootz) on March 15, 1974. They had 3 sons, Richard C. (Darci), Golden Lake, Douglas M. (Colleen Hardy), Mayville, and Matthew K., Golden Lake. Barney was a member of the Masonic Temple, served on the Mayville City Council and as Sexton of the Mayville Cemetery. As the age of electronic repair changed, Barney decided a change of career was needed. He got his CDL and went to work for Mayville City, where he worked for 14 ½ yrs., until he was injured on the job in 2007. Barney’s happiest times were being with his grandchildren Grant and Reid Strand, Brittany Klevberg and Rylie and Madison Strand and his cat Tigee. He is survived by his sons; grandchildren; 6 brothers: David (Ardell), Russell (Claudia Gebeke), Duane (Sandy), John (Christy), Paul (Francie), Steve (Dawn); sister: Eileen Strand; 14 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be in the Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND.
