George Howard Brustad, 85, of Mayville, ND, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. He was welcomed into heaven by many friends and family.
George was born September 22, 1934 in Mayville to Halvor and Louisa (Solberg) Brustad. He was baptized and confirmed at First American Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended school in Mayville. He served our country overseas just following the Korean War. During his time, he patrolled the Berlin Wall in Germany and served in the Venice, Italy area.
George was married to Nathalie “Becky” Beck on April 18, 1957. They raised 7 children together. He spent most of his career working at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
During his life he loved spending time with horses, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities, volunteering with the local baseball organizations and continuing to serve his country. He was commander of the VFW for several years, served as a member of the May~Port CG Color Guard for hundreds of ball games, was a part of the Honor Guard recognizing many veterans at their funerals and volunteered at Luther Memorial Home and the Veteran’s Home in Lisbon, ND. George took care of countless other functions honoring veterans throughout the years, especially those who fought in the World Wars. He loved and was proud to be a part of the community of veterans. His family and his community will miss him dearly.
George is preceded in death by his wife: Becky; his parents; an infant brother: Harold; a brother: Ruben; sisters: Lilly, Goodie and Arline; daughter-in-law: Jayne; grandson: Alex and great grandson: Conner.
He leaves behind his sons: Scott (Gail) and Nathan (Dawn); his daughters: Vicki (Terry) Berg, Peggy (Ken) Fyre, Pam (Tim) Armstrong, Patti (Barry) Ahl and Lisa (Marius) Rygg. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild due in September; a brother: Kenneth; a sister-in-law: Shirley Beck and his special friend: Karen Knudsvig; along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM on Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM Saturday, July 25, 2020 at First American Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.
Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors.
Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
