Frances Viola Braaten

October 19, 1929 — December 20, 2019

   Frances Viola (Bye) Braaten, 90, died on December 20, 2019 surrounded by her family at Sanford Hospital in Mayville.

   Frances was born to Alfred and Olga (Bjerke) Bye on October 19, 1929 in Newbugh Township, Steele County, ND where she attended school, graduating from Hatton High School.  On October 29, 1948, Frances married Reuben Braaten in Hatton ND.  Frances obtained her teaching certificate and taught for two years in Newburgh Township.  Reuben and Frances farmed for one year and then moved into Mayville.  They enjoyed many summers at Lake Melissa near Detroit Lakes and many winters at their home in Mesa, AZ.  Frances was active in Mayville Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School and in Ladies Aide and her Circle.

   All of her grandchildren were the light of her life.  She was proud of them, spending time with them every chance she had.  They always brought a smile to her face and she so wanted to live to see her great granddaughter due to be born in February.

   Frances is survived by her three children, Carol and Robert Hyland of Fond du Lac WI and their children, Rob and Nancy Hyland, their children Peyton, Isaac and Brody of Fond du Lac and Molly and Jeremy Johnson, their children, Hayle, Mikayla and Emma of West Fargo ND; Steve and Rebecca Braaten of Portland ND, their children Jesse and Pat Moore, their children Maggie, Sean and Molly of Mesa AZ, Josh and Jerilyn Braaten, their children Jordan and Cody Idso, and their son Lincoln of Dickinson ND and Jackson Braaten of Portland ND, JoDee Braaten and her son Trystan of Mesa AZ, Mandy and Erik Nelson and their son Eli of Fargo ND; Neil and Tracy Braaten of Mayville, their children Cassie Braaten and special friend Kevin Elliott and their baby daughter due in February, of Mayville  ND, Ben and Nicole Braaten and their children Hudson and Sutton of Fargo ND.  She is also survived by her sister Delores and Bob Kringlen of Grand Forks ND and sisters-in-law Ruby Bye and Marilyn Bye of Hatton, brother-in-law Ron and Edie Braaten of Fargo ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

   Frances was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Marie Pederson, brothers Arnold, Clarence, Alfred Jr. and Orvis.

   The family would like to thank the staff at Sanford Hospital for their compassionate care of Frances.

Visitation:  Will be 5–7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM Friday, December 27, 2019 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
