Ethel Coffin

December 21, 1928 — March 9, 2024

Mayville, ND

Ethel B. Coffin, 95, of Mayville, ND died Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Ethel was born December 21, 1928, to John and Marie (Moen) Berg, near Hillsboro, North Dakota.  She grew up on a farm in rural Hillsboro and graduated from Mayville High School.

She married Rolland Angen in June 1947. They lived near Garfield Minnesota, Fremont, California and returned to Mayville in March of 1962, where they farmed until Rolland’s death in December 1973. She married Roy Coffin in November 1977. They enjoyed bowling and participated in several local and national bowling tournaments. They also enjoyed traveling to Roy’s ship reunions. Roy passed away in August 2010. She was a long-time member of Mayville Lutheran Church, a member of the Miriam Circle and a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Ethel was a beloved wife, Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is fondly remembered for her quick wit, her sense of humor, her wise but unconventional words of advice and the fact that she was just plain fun to be around. She was a sports fan and loved to bowl. She once said, all they could say about me in my obituary is that “I cleaned barn and bowled.” It is true, she did both of those things, but so much more.

She is survived by her blended family: Russel Angen (Paul Christensen), Ray (Deb) Coffin, Rod Angen, Bob Coffin, Peggy (Dave) Craig, Johanna Coffin Dziengel, Phil (Marla) Coffin, Brad (Cheryl) Angen, Tom (Sue) Coffin and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Rolland Angen and Roy Coffin; sisters: Christine Kaldor, Gerda Brennan, Ann Albertson and Melinda Leland; daughter-in law: Vicky Angen and nephews: Ronald Kaldor and Richard Brennan.
