Elmer “JR” Jorgensen, 80, of Mayville, ND passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at his home.
JR was born on June 28, 1943 in Mayville, ND to Elmer and Luella (Guttormson) Jorgensen. He was raised in Mayville and attended school there. JR began driving truck for Hansen Transport at the age of 15. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma.
In December of 1963 he married Colleen Staples of Cavalier, ND. He had two boys: Cory and Rory. After his discharge from the Army, they moved to West Fargo, ND where he worked at the slaughterhouse in the early 1970’s. His heart was always on the road as he drove over 4 million miles for numerous companies like: SnoBoy, Red Owl, Gowan Bros, Lacher Trucking and ending with O’Brien Enterprises out of his hometown of Mayville.
He loved playing cards, going fishing and on Sunday’s found him hollering at his Vikings on TV. He eagerly awaited Monday mornings for the Race Report to find out how Cory did racing that weekend.
He is survived by his two boys: Cory (Debbie) Jorgensen of Duluth, MN and Rory (Rhonda) Jorgensen of West Fargo, ND; his twin sister: Julie Thompson of Hatton, ND; brother: Ronnie Jorgensen of Northwood, ND; sisters-in-law: Janice (Robert) Jorgensen of Mayville, ND and Kathy (Carmen) Jorgensen of Great Falls, Montana; brother-in-law: Shelton Watkins of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Laurel, Donnie, Carmen and Bobby; his two sisters: Marlene Fugleberg and Karen Watkins.
At JR’s request there will be no services.
