Eleanor Lucille Forseth, 98, of Chandler, AZ passed away peacefully June 13, 2023 at Copper Creek Inn Memory Care, where she resided.
Eleanor was born November 27, 1924 to Herlof and Clara (Skalet) Algaard in Newfolden, MN. While a child, her family moved to Fosston, MN where her parents owned and operated the Home Cafe restaurant, and later, the popular Gambles store. She had many great memories of growing up in Fosston. Her rosy cheeks in cold weather earned her the nickname Rosie. In the summer, she and her siblings enjoyed swimming in nearby Cross Lake. Eleanor graduated from Fosston High School. Following high school, she assisted her father in running the family store while her brothers were in the service, and upon their return she attended and graduated from Bemidji State University.
Upon earning her degree, Eleanor taught biology in Detroit Lakes, MN, and Hibbing, MN. It was in Detroit Lakes where she met her future husband, Richard Forseth. Eleanor and Richard were married in 1952 and moved to Mayville, ND, where he was hired as a mathematics professor at Mayville Statue University. They resided in Mayville for most of their life together, raised a loving family, and developed many close and lasting friendships there.
Eleanor will be remembered as a great supporter of the community, attending many Mayville State University activities and serving as a member and president of the Mayville Union Hospital board of directors. She was also very involved in the local P.E.O. chapter and her Mayville Lutheran Church circle. Eleanor loved to golf and play bridge. She competed in many golf tournaments in the local area, bringing home several championship trophies over the years.
Like her mother, Eleanor was a great baker and earned many compliments for her pies, rhubarb desserts and Norwegian cookies. She was proudest of her talent at making lefse. She thoroughly schooled her children in her recipe and technique, and they all carry on the tradition every Christmas.
Eleanor is survived by three children, James (Shannon) Forseth of Phoenix, AZ, Daniel (Jeremy) Forseth of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Carol Forseth of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Jamie Forseth, Kiefer Forseth, Danica Dosmann, and Conner Dosmann; brother-in-law Dale Folger; and 16 nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard and daughter Barbara; two brothers, Earl Algaard and Orville Algaard; and sister Marilyn Garbe.
A private family interment service will be at the Mayville Cemetery.
