Duane Langlie Lyng, 91, of Clifford, ND, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. He was born December 30, 1927 at Mayville, in Trail County, ND to Oscar and Alice Lyng. Duane graduated from Mayville High School in 1945. He joined the army and served in the Korean War as a Private 1st Class and was a member of a Motor Vehicle Inspection Team. Upon returning with an honorable discharge, he married Eileen Johnson of Mayville on June 6, 1953. They bought a farmstead and lived happily south of Mayville until they moved to the Luther Memorial Home in their later years. Duane was a member of the Mayville Mason’s: Goose River Lodge #19 and had served as its Worshipful Master as well as a KEM Shriner and a Keystone Cop. He was a member of the Mayville Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, as well as many other auxiliaries and boards. He was also a member of Mayville Lutheran Church. Duane especially enjoyed woodworking: lefse sticks for the tri-county area, left and right handed spatulas, sofa tables, and jar openers to name a few. He also built small cultivators, did latch hook rugs and liked reading, fishing and checking crops. He and Eileen were avid travelers, and Duane and Eileen enjoyed flying in their Cessna 150 to visit family and friends for a cup of coffee. Before any trip could start, Duane would say “and away we go” He is survived by his 4 daughters: Judy (Gary) Nysveen of Cummings, ND, Kay Beetum of Hankinson, ND, Betty (Kevin) Tweed of Binford, ND, Lisa (Tony) Morphis of Grand Forks, ND; 1 son: Alan (Denise) Lyng of Carlton, MN; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Merwin (Myrna) and James Lyng, all of Mayville, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Eileen; and brother: Orlin. Visitation: Will be 2–4 PM with a 4 PM Public Prayer Service, followed by a Masonic Service by Goose River Lodge #19, on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 1:30 PM Monday, January 21, 2019 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND. Military Honors: May~Port Honor Guard and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors. Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
