Dorothy Ann Nelson

 Dorothy Ann (Renden) Nelson, 81, died Monday, December 2, 2024 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville ND.

 Dorothy Renden was born October 14, 1943 at Union Hospital in Mayville, ND to Carl and Alice (Olson) Renden. She graduated Mayville High School and Mayville State College with a degree in English.

Dorothy returned to school and earned a degree in Biology from Mayville State University in the early 90s.

 On August 12, 1969 she married Dale Nelson. They lived on a farm near Portland, ND until 1980 when they moved to Mayville with their four daughters. Dorothy worked as a secretary at Mayville Lutheran Church where she was also active with Sunday School, Rachel Circle, WELCA, and the church choir. In later years she was a member of the Church Council, the Quilting Group, Mat Ministry, and Health Cabinet.

 Dale died of brain cancer in 1998. The fall of that year Dorothy started work as a Dorm Director at Agassiz Hall at Mayville State. She loved her job and stayed there until being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2012. 

Dorothy embraced life with friends and family as long as she could. The highlight of her life were her Grandchildren, but she was happiest when visiting with friends over a cup of coffee or a cold beer.

 Dorothy is survived by her four daughters: Tracy (Richard) Adams of Metairie LA, Tanya (Keith) Knudsvig of Portland ND, Terri Nelson (John Byron) of Fargo ND and Tina (Lynn) Leslie of Hunter ND; seven grandchildren: Trevor Nelson, Cora, Cassidy, Kayla, and Slade Knudsvig, Blane and Gage Leslie; brother-in-law: Dean (Jane) Nelson; sister-in-law: Inez Nelson and many nieces and nephews.

 Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents: Carl and Alice; husband: Dale and grandson: Cade Leslie. 

 Family Gathering: Will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Service of Remembrance: Will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.
