Donna Lou Lande

  Donna Lou (Holt) Lande 95, of Mayville ND passed away peacefully Sunday October 8, 2023 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville ND.

   Donna was born May 12, 1928 in Park River ND to Henry and Ella (Sonstegaard) Holt, she was one of twelve siblings. In 1933 the Holt family moved to a farm northeast of Mayville where she attended Lindaas township school. Her father being a potato farmer…. she said her first job was very “glamorous” sorting potatoes with her sisters.

   On May 22, 1948 Donna married “the boy next door” Lowell Lande in Crookston MN. Donna and Lowell were in the same class in school and lived on farms 2 miles apart. Together they raised two children Jeannie and Larry. In 1961 they moved to a family farm northeast of Mayville in Lindaas township. Donna worked as a homemaker and where needed on the farm until the late 80’s and then moved into Mayville. After moving to town, she also worked briefly at Mayville State University where she developed lifetime friendships with many students and faculty members.

   For Donna FAMILY and FRIENDS were very important in their lives, she was very accepting and opened their home numerous times to family members needing short time assistance for various reasons. Donna was also very dedicated to help her sisters and brothers when in need. They had numerous friends from many different communities that they enjoyed socializing with. Many that knew Donna would describe her as fun, loving, full of life and like to listen and dance to country western music.

   She made her home welcome to all, loved caring for her flowers, sewing and crocheting. Her most favorite times were decorating for the holidays, camping, and traveling to Minneapolis and Greeley, Colorado to visit their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan of MSU Comets and MPCG Patriots and enjoyed attending ball games in her earlier years. Donna took her basketball games so serious that friends would tease her about coming back in her second life as a coach. She also enjoyed watching college and professional basketball, football, golf, and NASCAR racing. Donna was a member of Mayville Lutheran Church, MSU Athletic Club and Mayport Boosters.

   Donna is survived by her son: Larry (Cathy) Lande of Greeley, Colorado; son-in-law: Ron Aasen of Burnsville, MN; grandchildren: Jenna (Ben) Schaffer of Greeley, CO, Kristen (Keith) Curry of Greeley, CO, Sharlene (Mike) Glausser of Burnsville MN, Lori (Todd) Duckson of Prior Lake, MN; great-grandchildren: Hannah, Lincoln, Zoe and Piper Duckson, Jack Glausser, Emersyn and Ella Schaffer, Landen and Jack Curry; sister: Bev Kuntz, Billings MT; brother: Dale (Bev) Holt and sisters-in-law: Eileen Holt, Marlys Holt and Marilyn Lande all of Mayville. She is also survived by several much-loved nieces and nephews.

   Donna was proceeded in death by her parents; husband: Lowell; daughter: Jeannie; sisters: Delores Lande, Elenore Soholt, Hazel Idso and Lorraine Holt; brothers: Allen, Linden, Darrell, Richard and Byron Holt.

   In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to Luther Memorial Home or Mayville State University Foundation in Donna’s name.    

Visitation:  Will be hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Mayville Cemetery in Mayville, ND.
