Curtis Steven Flexhaug, 66, of Hatton, ND, passed away on March 26, 2025.
He was born on August 29, 1958, in Casper, Wyoming, to Byron and Charlotte (Stevens) Flexhaug. Curtis spent his early years in Colorado before moving to North Dakota with his family, where he graduated from Trenton High School in 1976.
In September of 1978, Curtis married Patricia Aurich in Colorado, and together they had three children: Steven Levin, Marlea Kathleen, and David Erwin. Though Curtis and Patricia later divorced after their children were grown, he remained an unwavering father and grandfather, always dedicated to his family.
Curtis led a full life, working in various fields throughout the years, including upholstery, serving as an Art Instructor and Department Chair, and most recently as a packing supervisor at American Crystal Sugar. One of his lifelong dreams was to live on a farm, and in 2006, he achieved that dream when he purchased his home just outside of Hatton, ND.
Known for his kind heart and willingness to help others, Curtis was always there for those in need. Whether assisting his children with their dreams or helping a stranger with a broken-down car, Curtis was a dependable friend, father, and neighbor. Curtis was also known for his fun-loving nature. He gave affectionate pet names to his family members and had silly nicknames for everyday objects. He even started a buried treasure hunt for his grandchildren! Curtis’s zest for life will be deeply missed but remembered with a smile.
Curtis is survived by his mother, Charlotte Flexhaug; his children: Steven Levin Flexhaug and girlfriend Monique, Marlea Kathleen Nelson and husband Tarance, David Erwin Flexhaug and wife Julie; his grandchildren: Damian, Audria, Isaac, Taytum, Marley, Cora, and Emmeline; his partner, Kim Sandbothe; his sisters Diana Avans and Fern Schick and husband Michael; his brother, Ross Flexhaug; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Flexhaug, and his brother, Jon Flexhaug.
A celebration of life was held on April 6, 2025, at Norsemen Hall in Portland, ND, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. In honor of Curtis’ legacy, his family invites all who knew him to come together to celebrate his life and the impact he had on those around him.
