Charles “Chuck” Walden of Portland, ND passed away on August 25, 2022 after a hard fought battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Chuck was born to Dan and Ruth (Vigen) on September 11, 1967 in Grand Forks. Chuck graduated from May-Port High School in 1986 and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Industrial Engineering.
On May 5, 1990 Chuck married Jeanne (Hoffman) at St. Alphonsus in Langdon, ND. He proudly served in the Army Reserves for 8 years.
Chuck loved to hunt and bow hunting was something he and Jeanne loved to do together. He made sure he put everyone ahead of himself when it came to hunting and getting their deer first. He was a very giving, loving man who helped everyone without expecting anything in return. He would always stop what he was doing to do what needed to be done.
He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him, loved him, and worked with him. He was a master of every trade. He loved his mechanics shop, Main Drag, and working with Todd Nelson. Chuck loved to be outside and working whether it was carpentry, mechanics, farming, or creating new ideas to build something cool; he didn’t want to be stuck behind a desk. He lived life to the fullest with everyone he met.
You knew Chuck was around when you heard his laugh, saw his smile, and listened to his witty humor. He was someone we all always wanted to be around. He loved his family and was so proud of his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandsons. He loved to take his grandsons fishing on the boat, take them ice fishing, take them sledding, and letting them drive the go-kart. They were the absolute joy of his life.
Chuck is survived by his wife: Jeanne of Portland, ND; two daughters: Rebecca (Eric) Fugleberg of Brookfield, WI and Megan (Christopher) Gjelsness of Reynolds, ND; three grandsons: Thomas, Peter and Luke. He has two brothers: Scott (Dawn) and Ross (Paula); sister: Paula Kurtz; mother-in-law: Jeri Hoffman; brothers-in-law: Darol (Michelle) Hoffman and Darin (Tina) Hoffman; and sister-in-law Janelle Domres; and many nieces and nephews.
