Carole J. Amb, 80, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Carole was born May 29, 1938, in Williston, ND, to Arvid and Minda (Hexom) Olson. Carole attended a rural country school through elementary school, and graduated from Williston High School in 1956. She was baptized on July 29, 1940, by Pastor Gerhardt Frost at First Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Lukes on December 16, 1951, by Pastor Willard Lund. She played trombone in the Round Prairie/Pioneer Band and continued to play trombone in the Williston High School Band. She had a love of teaching, and put that into practice by receiving a teaching degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Her first teaching position was in a small one room country school named the Hauge School south of Grenora, ND, and she taught in many schools in Williams County for 10 years before marrying Carl Amb on June 19, 1971. The couple moved to a farm near Portland, ND, where Carole helped raise their children, Greg and Lisa. Carole lived in the Mayville-Portland area for the rest of her life, pursing her joys of faith, family, friends, and music. She enjoyed participating in and leading Bible studies at her church, Bruflat Lutheran. Her friends were like family to her, and new people quickly became friends. The last several years of life were spent at Luther Memorial Home, where she enjoyed greeting and talking with other residents and staff members. Carole is survived by her son: Greg of Grafton, ND; her daughter: Lisa (Matt) Brand of Mankato, MN; two grandchildren: Naomi and Joel Brand; her siblings: Marlis (Dallas) Cote of Palm Desert, CA, Ann (Donald) Arnson, and Roger (Helen) Olson all of Williston; and many other treasured family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents: Arvid and Minda; her husband: Carl; her sisters: Connie (James) Gwaltney and Ardis (Elden) Martini. Visitation: Will be 5–7 PM with a 7 PM Public Prayer Service on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Luther Memorial Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Bruflat Lutheran Church in Portland, ND. Burial: Will be at the Bruflat Cemetery in Portland, ND.
