Calvin Martin Ogburn

 Calvin Ogburn, 79, of Mayville, ND died Monday, November 25, 2024 at his home in rural Mayville, ND.

 Cal was born May 24, 1945, to Donald Ogburn and Irene (Grindeland) Ogburn. He spent his childhood in Mayville and later graduated from both Mayville High School and Mayville State College. He then moved to Grand Forks to further his education at UND and on to complete a master’s in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1968.

 While in Norman, Oklahoma, Cal met his former wife, Sandra Valentine. They were married in Mayville before beginning their travels in the military. He was a former Captain (nautical) in the air force from 1966 to 1972. Much of his service was spent overseas in Guam. Upon retiring from the military, he and Sandy moved to Durham, North Carolina where he received a further degree in Air Pollution Control.

 Cal worked as one of the lead Meteorologists for the Carolina Power and Light Company from 1974 to 2007. He settled down in Raleigh after his retirement, where he enjoyed his remaining years with family and friends, including his good friend and companion, Carol Thornton.

 He is survived by his two children: Erin and Scott Valentine Ogburn and siblings: Donna Bartholomew, Rebecca Papendieck (Bill Papendieck) and Shawn Ogburn (Patty Ogburn).

 Cal was an avid reader and fan of the UNC Tarheels. He had a great love for his family and his country. We miss you Cal…..
