Betty L. Holkesvig

   Betty Louaine Holkesvig, 88, formerly of Portland, ND, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND.

   Betty was born in Portland, ND on March 22, 1932 to Sophia and Nickoli Eiken, she was the youngest of 10 children. She graduated from Portland High School and was a member of Bruflat Lutheran Church. She became a member of Aurdal Lutheran Church when she married Howard Holkesvig on September 11, 1953, in a double ring ceremony with her niece, Dorothy Eiken and Howard’s cousin, William Holkesvig. They made their home and farmed west of Portland for 57 years. The couple moved to Portland in 2010.

   Betty was involved in church activities at Aurdal Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school there. She enjoyed baking chocolate chip cookies for her family and visitors and always had a stash in the freezer. She loved playing the piano, listening to music, jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku, bowling, riding bike, and spending time with her family.

   Betty is survived by her children: Nancy (Greg) Schumacher of Thompson, David Holkesvig of Portland, Sharon (Chad) Lilleberg of Argusville and Diane (Rob) Ullyott of Detroit Lakes, MN; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Dorothy Heskin of Mayville; several nieces and nephews; along with her most beloved dog, Scooter “who never peed in the house!”; Scooby, Luther Memorial Home’s dog was her faithful companion to the end.

   She was preceded in death by her husband: Howard; grandson: Cory Holkesvig; her parents and nine siblings.  

 Masks are required.

Visitation:  Will be 5–7 PM on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral Service: Will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland, ND.

Burial: Will be in the Aurdal Cemetery in Portland, ND.
