Helen Marie (Rygg) Vinje

Helen M. (Aasen) Vinje Helen Marie (Aasen Rygg) Vinje, 88, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Mayville, ND, died March 5, 2007, at the Altru Health System in Grand Forks, ND. She was born March 24, 1918, to Carl and Mabel (Aaserud) Aasen at rural Portland ND. She graduated from Mayville High School and earned a teacher's certificate from Mayville Normal School. She taught in a rural school west of Killdeer ND, and at rural Portland. In November 1939 Helen married Conrad I. Rygg. They farmed near Clifford ND. Conrad died in January 1966. In the early 60s Helen returned to school, completing her bachelor's degree. She taught school in Warroad MN, and Pigeon MI, and returned to rural Clifford in 1971. Helen married Hagbert (Bert) L. Vinje in November 1972, moving to his farm near Finley. Bert died in 1976, and Helen moved to Clifford where she lived until 1997. She lived in Mayville and Portland until entering the Tri-County Health Center in Hatton in 2002. She was a long-time member of Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford. She is survived by four sons and three daughters: Lowell (Marlene) of Colorado Springs CO, Marlan of Mayer AZ, Dianne (Dan) Kaldor of Conroe TX, Glenn of Devils Lake ND, Duane (Crystal) of St. Paul MN, Esther of Bismarck ND, and Meryl of Lewistown MT; her brother, Robert Aasen, of Portland; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two stepsons, S. Lee (Sheryl) Vinje of Portland ND, and Mark Vinje of Jamestown ND; and stepdaughter Ona Bures, Flasher ND. Preceding her in death were her parents; her sisters, Margaret and Ruth; her husbands, Conrad Rygg and Bert Vinje; infant granddaughter Anita Margaret Rygg, grandson Brian Lowell Rygg, and infant great-granddaughter Evelyn Rose Rygg. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday March 10, at Norman Lutheran Church in Clifford. Visitations: Will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday at Baker Funeral Home, and one hour before the Saturday service in Clifford. Burial: Clifford Cemetery, Clifford, ND
