Courtlan “Bud” Hanson, 88, of Mayville, ND, died Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. He had lived at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville for the past 5 years. Bud was born October 3, 1922 in Portland, ND to parents Anna (Reyerson) and Christ Hanson. Bud attended Portland Grade School, Mayville High School, Mayville State College and UND. He served as a Captain in the US Air Force, flying a B24 bomber in the South Pacific during WWII. Bud married June Vosper in Neche, ND on June 1, 1944. After the war, he operated a flying service/pilot school, and in 1951 began farming. Bud was active in the community as a volunteer fireman, board member of Luther Memorial Home, trustee at Mayville Lutheran Church, chairman of Farm Bureau, and life member of the American Legion and VFW. He was instrumental in acquiring and placing the airplane monument in Mayville as a reminder of soldiers protecting our freedom. Bud was an avid fisherman and hunter. He lived his life in Mayville, wintering in Mesa, AZ. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, June Hanson of Mayville. Bud was the proud father of Jan (David) Fisher of Ann Arbor MI, Court (Arlene) Hanson of Blanchard, ND, Kris (Danny) Scarborough of Mandan, ND, and Bruce (Shari) Hanson of Mayville; and had 9 grandchildren, Andrew (Megan) Fisher, Bart (Laura) Fisher, Seth Scarborough, Anna (Andy) Mignery, Ethan Hanson, Margretta Hanson, Ashley Hanson, Elizabeth Hanson, and Elsa Hanson. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeanette Gjervold. Family requests that memorials be sent to the VFW on behalf of Bud Hanson (VFW 4221, Box 308, c/o George Brustad, Mayville, ND 58257). Visitation: 5-7 PM Sunday, November 28, 2010 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Luther Memorial Home Chapel, Mayville, ND and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church.
