Jean Phyllis Olson of Portland, ND passed away peacefully on November 10, 2010 at her home in Portland, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Jean was born August 15, 1926, in Ambrose, ND, the daughter of Thelma ‘Haugen’ Overboe. She was raised by her grandparents near Crosby, ND and has called Portland home for the past 74 years. On December 30, 1944 she married her life long partner, John T. Olson. Jean was a proud wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a sharp wit, a very charismatic, loving personality and never let a man outwork her. Loyal and generous to her family and friends, Jean was a strong woman that always helped whenever there was a need. She dedicated many years working at Mayville State University, Luther Memorial Home and Union Hospital. Jean is survived by her husband, John T Olson; daughter Dianne Odden (David) of West Fargo, ND; son Jerome Olson of Portland ND; two sisters, Alice Marquardt of New Carrolltown, MD, and Carmen (Lowell) Thompson of Bloomington, IL; one brother, Orville Overboe of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren, Kim (Tom) Potter, Kirk, Kevin, Angie (Chad) Brendefur, Scott, Stacey (Darren) Dunham, Shawn, Kelly (Chad) Anderson, Jerri (Aron) Martz, Danielle (George) Perich; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant sons, Larry John and Dana Jon. Visitation: Friday, November 12, from 5:30 -7:30pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND. Funeral Service: Saturday, November 13, at 10:30am at Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Interment: Aurdal Lutheran Church Cemetery, Portland, ND. Please share in our remembrance of a woman who left an enduring impression upon us all. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
