Gilmar C. Grandalen, 91, of rural Portland, ND died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Gilmar was born January 2, 1919 to Gilbert and Connie (Kjensrud) Grandalen at rural Portland, ND. He attended country school at rural Portland. He married Gina Basol on November 22, 1939 and together they had 3 children. Gilmar farmed in the Portland area until retiring in 1985. Gilmar was a very active lifetime member of Aurdal Lutheran Church, where he also served on the church council. Gilmar is survived by two sons, Ronald of Cooperstown, ND and James (Faye) of rural Portland, ND; one daughter, Connie Jerome of McClusky, ND; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Yvonne Knutson of Corydon, Iowa; and one brother, Dennis (VondaLee) Grandalen of Wahpeton, ND. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Gina on July 11, 2009; his parents; grandson, Dean Grandalen; sisters, Joyce Jemtrud and Evelyn Henry; and brother, Mardell Grandalen. Funeral Service: 1:00 PM Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Aurdal Lutheran Church, Portland, ND. Visitation: 5-7 PM Wednesday, August 25, 2010 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home in Mayville, and will resume one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. Interment: Aurdal Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Portland, ND.
