Sylvia J Kvernen

Sylvia J. Kvernen, 74, of Mayville, ND died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Sylvia was born January 20, 1936 to Charles and Halga (Vinje) Thompson on the farm outside of Clifford, ND. She grew up and attended school in Clifford. In 1953 she married Gordon Domier and together they had 4 children. She married Orion Kvernen in 1984 in Hillsboro, ND, and together they made their home in Mayville. Sylvia moved into Luther Memorial Home in June, 2008. Sylvia enjoyed baking, gardening and any kind of field work. She was a very hard worker. For several years she worked at, and later owned and operated, Floyd’s Bar in Portland, ND. Sylvia was a very welcoming person, and loved to visit with everyone. She also enjoyed sports, especially the Chicago Cubs. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Orion of Mayville; 4 children, Rebecca (Harold) Ambroson of Elk Grove Village, IL, Randy (Becky) Domier of Grafton, ND, Lisa Domier of Olney, MD, and Kathryn (James) Rygg of Portland; 6 step-children, Darrell (Marge) Kvernen of East Grand Forks, MN, Terry (Lynn) Strand of Moorhead, MN, Paul (Tammy) Kvernen of East Grand Forks, MN, Dale (Kim) Kvernen of Portland, Cheri Gregor of West Fargo, ND, and Jenell (Ron) Braseth of Mayville; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Lorraine Rygg of Portland, Marian Hanson of Fargo, ND, and Verne (Elaine) Thompson of Clifford; and 2 special friends, Wanda and Nikki. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Myron and Glen; sister, Eleanor Grandalen;2 brothers-in-law, Myron Rygg and Hilbert Hanson; and niece Nancy Fazenden. Memorial Service: Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Visitation: Monday, August 23, 2010 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville and will resume one hour prior to the memorial service, at the church. Burial: Mayville City Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
