Thora Moen

Thora Moen, 93, of Mayville, died Friday, October 20, 2006, at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville. She was born on November 5, 1912, in Norway Township, rural Mayville, ND, the daughter of Lars and Marie (Hagen) Berglie. Thora was baptized and confirmed at AAL Lutheran Church in rural Hillsboro. She was raised and attended school in Mayville, graduating in 1931, and then attended Mayville College. After her schooling, she worked for various families in the area. On January 30, 1936, she married Hilmer Moen. The couple made their home near Galesburg until moving to a farm East of Clifford. After her husband’s death in 1975, Thora moved to Galesburg, and later in the mid 1990’s into Mayville. Thora entered the Luther Memorial Home in September of 1997 where she has resided since. Thora will be remembered for her fabulous roast beef dinners and her homemade breads. She loved to read. Thora also enjoyed being named the Grand Marshall of Mayville’s 125th anniversary parade in 2006, and was honored at the Moen Reunion on July 21, 1996, as the family matriarch. Preceded in death by her husband: Hilmer, on November 2, 1975; one infant daughter: Patricia Ann Moen in 1943; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Brend, Damon Moen and Robin Press; three sisters: Gudrun Hatling, Mina Reynolds and Magna Haugen and three brothers: Alf, Ludvig and Art. Thora is survived by her five daughters: Gloria Brend of Portland, Bonnie (Ron) Knight of Shalimar, FL, Cheryl (Duane) Smith of Harwood, Renee Press of Coon Rapids, MN and Julie (Michael) Walz of Franklin, WI; five sons: Denis Moen of Mesa, AZ, David (Sharon) Moen of Fargo, Donald (Connie) Moen of Mesa, AZ, Dean Moen of Horace and Del Moen of Christine; 24 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her one sister: Clara Domier of Portland; one sister-in-law: Grace Berglie of Mayville and numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Elm River Lutheran Church, Galesburg, ND VISITATION: Will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church CLERGY: Rev.
