Darryl Gene Grage

Darryl Gene Grage, 73, Mayville, ND, died Monday, October 9, 2006, at Union Hospital, Mayville, ND. Darryl was born July 16, 1933 in rural Grandin, ND, the son of Harry and Elvina (Nordgren) Grage. He was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church at Grandin, ND, and confirmed at the first Lutheran Church in Hunter, ND. He entered the US Navy in March 1951 to 1954, and joined the US Air Force in 1954 to 1971. He did two tours of duty, including Vietnam and Korea. He was decorated 16 times during his time in the Air Force and the Navy. He made 49 trips to the North Pole Region while in the Air Force, studying meteorology. In 1971 he moved to Casselton, ND and was the manager of the Vets Club. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Amvets. He was also a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church of Hunter. He also served on several local committees and was involved in numerous other activities. In 1972, he moved to Tacoma, WA and married Adelma McFarland. They lived in Washington until 1994, when she died. They raised many foster children together. He was a real estate broker while residing in Tacoma, and also worked in the shipyards there building tuna boats. He was a Boy Scout Leader for 30 years. In 1995, he moved back to Hunter, ND where he retired. He married Dorothy Bjerke on February 26, 2000 in Clifford, ND. They resided in Hunter until February 2006, and then moved to Mayville, ND. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Mayville, ND; two brothers, Donald Grage, Hunter, ND and Dennis Grage, Haywardin, IA; one sister, Delores (David) Winger of Kansas City, KS; two nephews, three nieces, several cousins and stepchildren, Pat (Reinhard) Floeter, Pelican Rapids, MN, Wendy (Bill) Satrom, Page, ND, and Darrin (Nancy) Bjerke, Mayville, ND; step-grandchildren, Aaron (Lisa) Floeter, Chaska, MN, Allison Floeter, Burnsville, MN, Jeremy Kainz, Hillsboro, ND, Derek Kainz, Cincinnati, OH, Luke Gisvold, Galesburg, ND, Eric Gisvold, Page, ND, Kristopher (Kayla) Satrom, Hatton, ND, Stephanie (Nick) Fugleberg, Hope, ND, Brandon Bjerke, Mayville, ND, and Blake Bjerke, Mayville, ND; and one step great-grandson, Ryder Fugleberg, Hope, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife Adelma McFarland. FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, October 13, 2006 at 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church, Hunter, ND. VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. BURIAL: Hunter Cemetery, Hunter, ND.
