Emma Hamm

Emmajine Eliza Hamm, 98, of Page, ND, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center in Arthur, ND. Emma was born November 29, 1911, the daughter of Erl and Myrtle (Walker) Klessig, on the Klessig Farmstead in Page Township, 9 miles east of Page. She was born a few minutes after her twin brother Charles. Emma grew up on the family farm. She went to country school and attended 2 years of High School in Hunter, ND. She was married on the family farm, September 24, 1930 to Albert Hamm of Park Rapids, MN. The couple moved to Rapid City, SD right after the wedding and worked at the Claud Hamm Saw Mill. They moved from there to the Park Rapids area where their first 4 sons were born. They later moved to Fargo, ND where their 5th son was born. They moved around a few more times before returning to West Fargo, ND. They were Charter Members of the Messiah Lutheran Church. In 1972 they moved to her brothers farm a mile south of the family farm. When Emma’s dad passed away in 1974, they moved to the family farm. The couple spent their summers on the farm and their winters in their house in Page. She moved to Arthur in August of 2009. Emma loved the farm and it was an important part of her life. We have all enjoyed many times of fun, fellowship and food, especially her Apple Pies, Molasses Cookies and German Oatmeal Bread. Friends would stop and she always gave them a treat. Emma loved her music, and her group "Emma's Friends" played each summer at Bonanzaville in West Fargo. She played both the piano and violin. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. We were very blessed to have had her with us for so long. Blessed be her memory. She is survived by 4 sons Virgil (Marie) of Galesburg, ND, Jerry (Kathy) of New Braunfels, TX, Alden (Linda) of St. Louis Park, MN, and Marvin (Joan) of West Fargo; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hamm of Westerly, RI; 12 grandchildren, Deadra (Joe) Moore of Minneapolis, MN, Kevin (Lisa) Hamm of Pardeeville, WI, Richard (Katrina) Hamm of Fargo, Matthew (Liza) Hamm of Winnipeg, MB Canada, Steven (Mary) Hamm of New Braunfels, TX, Susan (Steve) Sanford of St. Louis Park, MN, Brian (Jennifer) Hamm of St. Louis Park, MN, Michael (Rebecca) Hamm, of Las Vegas, NV, Cinda (Scott) Morton of West Fargo, Amanda Hamm of West Fargo, Jeffery Hamm and Jordan Hamm both of West Fargo; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Edith Hamm Larson of Lodi, Ca. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 yrs in 2002; her twin brother Charles in 1984; son, Merle in 2003; 1 grandson, David Hamm; and 3 great-great grandchildren, Annadele Rose, Emma Joy and Samantha Jine Hamm. Visitation: Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 3-5 PM with a prayer service at 4:00 PM at Arthur Good Samaritan Home, Arthur, ND, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church in Galesburg. Funeral Service: Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11:00 am at Elm River Lutheran Church, Galesburg, ND. Interment: Page City Cemetery, Page, ND, at 2:00 PM
