Vivian Lorraine Beck

Vivian Lorraine Beck, 88, died peacefully on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND. Vivian was born November 21, 1921 in Pine Creek, MN to Halvor and Mollie (Haugen) Halvorson. Vivian moved to North Dakota where she met and exchanged traditional Norwegian wedding vows with C. Marvin Beck on October 12, 1940 in Hatton, ND. They made their home in the Hatton/Portland area. Vivian’s creative abilities included sewing, knitting, and a variety of crafts. She enjoyed sharing homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, beef dumpling soup, coffee, conversation and many laughs. Everyone felt welcome visiting Vivian’s home. Vivian’s family was her greatest pride and joy. Vivian enjoyed various jobs and was an active member of the Bruflat Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway. She is survived by three daughters, Mollyann (Glenn) McLeod of Grand Rapids, MN, Shari (Dennis) Schultz of Portland, ND, and Nancy (Larry) Walker of Killdeer, ND; one son, Richard (Judy) Beck of Portland, ND; 11 grandchildren, Joel (Jackie) Beck, Matt Beck, Mary Beck, Dan Beck, Angela (Ron) Ulseth, Lynnette (Bruce) LaRoque, Jason Schultz, Sara Jelliff, April (Marco) Djibonon, Ross (Sarah) Walker, and Alyssa Walker; along with 19 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis (Ken) Lundeby of Dickinson, ND. Vivian is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; one grandson, David McLeod; seven sisters, Helen Madsen, Gladys Reed, Thelma Nelson, Edna Enger, Doris Aune, Opal Gwynn and Lillian Harrom; and one brother, Steve Halvorson. Visitation: Will be 5-7 PM Thursday, April 29, 2010, with a public prayer service at 7 PM at the Baker Funeral Home of Mayville, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
