Marcella Lorraine Moen

Marcella Lorraine Moen, 81 of Mayville, ND died Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Union Hospital in Mayville, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Marcella was born June 10, 1928 to Melvin and Magda (Otteson) Bjerke in Mayville, ND. She grew up at rural Clifford, ND and graduated from Portland High School. She married Omar Moen on October 26, 1947 at Perry Lutheran Church and together they lived on a farm north of Clifford. They moved to Mayville where they resided in rental properties, until they built their own home together in 1960, where they raised their family and more for 49 years together. Marcella worked at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville for 11 years, and she also worked for Ann and Bill Getz at Gambles Hardware Store for 12 years. Marcella loved all kinds of craftwork, especially embroidery, quilting and sewing. While Omar had his vegetable garden, Marcella had her flower garden, which she enjoyed taking care of. She was a member of the Homemakers Club and enjoyed playing cards with her homemaker friends. She loved to bake, and would often experiment with new recipes. Marcella was also an active member in her circle at Mayville Lutheran Church. Marcella is survived by her 5 children, Gary Moen (Shelia Anderson) of Clifford, Annette (Eddy) Sherva of Northwood, ND, Vickie (Tom) Soholt of Mayville, Carla (Bruce) Christianson of Portland, ND, and Kurt Moen of Clifford; 13 grandchildren, Jason Moen, April (Daniel) Cranston, Alicia (Tom) Rolfson, Chad (Becky) Sherva, Cory (Sonya) Sherva, Holly (Justin) Cooper, Robin (Paul) Severud, Nicole (Mike) Zorba, Jered (Jessica) Arneson, Scott Schultz, Kasey Schultz, Michael Christianson, and Nicholas Christianson; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Sam Bjerke of Shelly, MN and Robert (Sharon) Bjerke of Clifford; 3 sisters, Arlene Hanson of Minot, ND, Marion Brasel of Blanchard, ND, and Corrine (Floyd) Knudson of Mayville; and 2 sisters-in-law, Eleanor Bjerke of Page, ND and Dorothy (Bjerke) Grage of Mayville. She was preceded in death by her husband Omar on April 16, 2009; her parents; brothers, Herman and Richard Bjerke; sisters-in-law, Arlene Bjerke and Doris Bjerke; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Hanson. Funeral Service: 10:30 AM Tuesday April 20, 2010 at Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville. Visitation: 5-7 PM Monday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville.
