Mark Rudolph Harstad, 55 of Mayville, ND died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his residence in Mayville. Mark was born September 5, 1954 to Rudolph and Ivy (Moen) Harstad in Mayville, the third of five children. Growing up he participated in Boy Scouts, band, choir and various activities. He graduated from Mayville-Portland High School in 1972. He attended Spokane Falls Community College, exploring his interest in photography. He then returned to Mayville, working at different businesses until he began managing the Mayville Improvement Corp. (Top Hat). He later returned to college and graduated from Mayville State University with a degree in Business Administration. He worked at American Crystal Sugar and most recently was in the insurance business as a crop adjustor. Mark had many interests and was involved in various civic and community groups. He had worked part-time with the Traill County Sheriff’s Department, Mayville Fire Department, and was an EMT with West Traill County Ambulance. Mark was a Shriner and Keystone Cop, and in particular, he enjoyed being a Mason. Mark is survived by his mother, Ivy of Mayville; two brothers, Richard (Mary) Harstad of Beavercreek, OH and Gary (Becki) Harstad of Mayville; two sisters, Karen (Tim) Pratt of Scottsdale, AZ and Kathy (Paul) Leclaire of Missoula, MT; and many nieces and nephews who miss him. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolph. Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Association or Cardiac Rehab at MeritCare Union Hospital, Mayville.
