Dorothy Fern (Withers) Brokke, 79, formally of Buxton, ND, passed away Monday, June 19, 2006 at MeritCare Nursing Home, Hillsboro, ND. Dorothy “Dot” was born January 30, 1927, in Lakin, Kansas, the daughter of Rev. Arthur and Carrie (Blare) Withers. During the 1930’s the Rev. married Emma Barnes and together with Dorothy, the family traveled the country and settled in rural Buxton. Dorothy grew up in Kansas, and attended schools in Cummings, ND, Minnesota, and Fargo, ND. She was an Alumni of Fargo Central. Before meeting Lynn Brokke in 1949, Dorothy attended Nurses Aid School in Fargo, ND. IN addition, she went to beauty school in Bakersfield, CA, in the 40’s and 50’s. Dorothy married Lynn Brokke on November 5, 1950 in Grand Forks, ND. Together they lived in Buxton, ND. Dorothy worked at Jiffy Inc. in Crookston, MN and Lil’s Café in Climax, MN. In 1978, Lynn and Dot Began to travel south to Arizona where they would spend their winter months, until 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Annette Brokke, Fargo, ND; two grandsons, Darrell and Thomas Black, Fargo, ND; three sisters, Ava Wadholm-Slymar, CA, Evelyn McCabe, India, and Alice Foat, Indiana; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn, three parents, infant sister, Effie Withers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brother and sisters-in-law, and some cousins. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Cummings, ND. VISITATION: Friday, June 23, 2006 from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, at Baker Funeral Home, Mayville, ND, and one hour prior to the funeral service, at the church. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, rural Cummings, ND.
