Louise M. Olofson, 93, of Mayville, ND, died Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Union Hospital in Mayville. Louise was born on March 31, 1916, in Kidder County, near Chaseley, ND, the daughter of John and Theresa (Thompson) Eklund. She attended elementary school, and later did housework for numerous families. On July 3, 1943, she married Harry Olofson. The couple moved from Chaseley to Clifford, ND in 1953. She worked as a clerk in the Anthony’s Clothing Store and later in Kibler’s Grocery Store. In 1957, the couple moved to Missoula, MT, and returned 5 years later to farm near Clifford. After Harry retired, they moved into Mayville, and wintered 27 years in Arizona. Louise entered the Luther Memorial Home in 2006. Louise designed her own patterns to sew for herself and children, and was a 4-H leader for 5 years. She loved to can her garden vegetables and fruit. Louise was an active member in the churches where they lived. She enjoyed family reunions and started gathering family histories in 1971, compiling books and photo albums. At the age of 87, she received a computer and liked contacting families and friends. Louise is survived by 4 children, Leonard Olofson of Moorhead, MN, Donna Hendrickson of Moorhead, MN, Dorothy Oschner of Olympia, WA and Gerold (Dorothy) Olofson of Missoula, MT; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; 3 brothers, Oscar, Carl and Lawrence Eklund; 2 daughters-in-law, Lois Olofson and Joyce Olofson; and 1 son-in-law, Ray Hendrickson. Visitation: Will be on Friday from 5-7 pm with a 7 pm public prayer service at the Baker Funeral Home, and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral: 11 am Saturday at the Mayville Lutheran Church, Mayville, ND. Burial: Mayville Cemetery, Mayville, ND.
